SetWrite

A quiet desk for writing.

SetWrite is a writing desk for iPhone, iPad and Mac. You open it and you are already writing. The page is warm paper, the type is serif, and a title line and a word count are all that stay in view. Headings, emphasis, quotations and lists take shape as you type them in Markdown, and the marks step back once they have done their work.

Sources stay with their sentences

Attach a source to a passage, with its excerpt, its page and a private note on what it establishes. A faint gold underline keeps the two together as the text moves. When you export, sources become footnotes, endnotes or links.

Nothing you cut is lost

Keep a named version whenever you like, and SetWrite keeps automatic ones quietly as you work. Compare any two and restore any of them. Set a passage aside instead of deleting it, or try an alternative for a sentence and switch between them until one wins.

Pick up where you stopped

Each piece reopens where you last wrote, on whichever device you pick up, with the one sentence you left yourself. Working notes live in the draft in small italic and gather in a single Review list before the piece goes out.

Done means sent

Export to Word with real footnotes, or to Markdown, plain text or PDF, or copy as rich text for an email or a website. Read Aloud plays the draft back in an on-device voice.

Your files, your devices

Every piece is an ordinary Markdown file in your own iCloud Drive, in a folder called SetWrite. Any other app can open it. On iPhone and iPad, dictation waits just above the keyboard and is transcribed on the device. SetWrite collects no data: no account, no analytics, no advertising.
