Questions, problems, or a note about how it feels to write in.
Email andrew@leahey.org. Please include your device, its system version, and what you were doing when something went wrong.
Where are my documents?
They are Markdown files in iCloud Drive, in the SetWrite folder. You can find them in Files on iPhone and iPad, and in Finder on the Mac. Deleting the app does not delete them.
A comparison appeared
If the same document changed in two places before they could sync, SetWrite does not choose for you. It shows both versions. You can keep this one, keep the other, or keep both. Nothing is overwritten without your say.
Dictation
The first time you dictate, Apple's speech model for your language may need to download. After that, dictation works offline. Your audio never leaves the device.
Getting back an earlier draft
Open Versions. Named versions are kept until you delete them, and SetWrite keeps automatic versions as you work, thinned to one a day after a week and one a week after a month. Choose one to compare it with the current text, or Restore it. Restoring keeps what you had first as a version of its own.
Something I set aside
Open Set aside to find every passage you moved out of the draft, with its date and its sources. Put Back places it at the cursor.
Exporting to Word
Choose Export, then Word. Sources become footnotes, endnotes or links, as the export sheet says; working notes are left out unless you include them. If Word or Google Docs shows something wrong, please send the .docx and the original .md file.
Read Aloud is silent or sounds wrong
Read Aloud uses your device's own voices. Check that the device is not muted, and try a different voice under Accessibility, Spoken Content, Voices in Settings.
Syncing seems slow
Sync is iCloud's. Check that iCloud Drive is on for SetWrite in Settings, and that you have a connection. SetWrite always saves on the device first, so nothing you write is lost while you wait.
